Company description

The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is responsible for energy in the country, including the oil and gas reserves found on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. It is led by the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Terje Riis-Johansen. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is responsible for agencies that are now a familiar part of the scenery for oil and gas companies operating in Norway: the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, who are responsible for the regulation of petroleum resources on the Norwegian Continental shelf; Gassnova, who run the gas pipeline infrastructure in the country; and Petoro, who are responsible for looking after the State’s Direct Financial Interest (SDFI) in the oil and gas sector on behalf of the government. The ministry also has a 62% interest in StatoilHydro, Norway’s state-backed oil and gas company.
