07.03.2018 /

The 2nd Annual LNG USA Summit, organized by Wisdom Events, ended on February 28th, after two days of high-level discussions, international expert talks and beneficial networking. The Houston-based event gathered speakers from the most prominent LNG companies, who provided valuable, industry-specific takeaways.

The first day was chaired by Andrew Palmateer of the United States Energy Association, the Strategic Partner of the event, and saw participants debate the evolution and developments in the LNG market.

Jason Feer of Poten & Partners delved into the reasons of how the LNG market is evolving, followed by the President & CEO of Baltic Connector Herkko Plit explaining how this gas pipeline project will enable the interconnection of the Baltic and Finnish gas markets and their integration with the EU’s common energy market. Concentrating on the US, Kasciandro Senem outlined the reasons why Brazilian Natural Gas Market could be a home for US LNG, creating competitive advantage and
additional demand for this country’s LNG.

A number of technological advances were also presented. Chris Magruder from Olympus Corporation of the Americas demonstrated Advances in Phased Array Inspection of 9% Ni LNG Tank Shell Welds, while Thorsten Schaper from Protego talked about Testing Pilot Operated Valves for Cryogenic Service to the Extreme and FCX Performance’s Bryan Hodges emphasized Advanced Engineering Valves in the LNG Industry.

As the first day of the conference came to a close, presentations were replaced with an exciting Awards Ceremony, where companies and individuals were awarded for their most outstanding achievements in their respective categories: EPC Contractor of the Year – Black & Veatch, LNG Supplier of the Year – Shell, LNG Bunkering Solution of the Year – Gas Natural Fenosa, Service Provider of the Year – Red Box Energy Services, The Most Innovative LNG Project of the Year – NextDecade, The Most Exceptional Contribution to the Development of FSRU/FLNG – Wison Offshore
& Marine and the Gas Executive of the Year Award went to the President of Shell, Bruce Culpepper.

The second day concentrated on floating LNG. Starting off with the panel discussion on Cost-effective Solutions for FSRU & FLNG between delegates from Wison Offshore & Marine, NextDecade, Black & Veatch and Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (USA), it continued with individual presentations on the same topic. Martin Hruska from Wison Offshore & Marine shared information on his company’s FLNG project that marked the first time in history that LNG has been produced onboard a floating facility. Similarly, Steelhead LNG’s Paul Sullivan de-mystified floating LNG by presenting At Shore LNG™ (ASLNG™) Concept.

Additionally, William Geis of Tenaska Marketing Ventures highlighted the nuances that exporters need to consider in structuring and implementing a robust feed gas strategy for US LNG. Massimo Di-Odoardo from Wood Mackenzie continued the thought of US LNG by describing Global LNG Dynamics and Opportunities for a Second Wave of US LNG. The event ended with panelists, representing Center for LNG, LNG Limited, Monkey Island LNG, Baker Hughes, a GE Company and Petrofac discussing Mid & Large-Scale LNG Developments.
