VNIIST, being the developer of the fundamental construction norms and regulations, standards such as SNiP 2.05-06-85* «Trunk pipelines», SNiP III-42-80* «Trunk Pipelines. Rules of production and work acceptance», VSN 004-88 «Construction of trunk pipelines. Technology and organization», VSN 012-88 «Construction of trunk pipelines. Quality control and work acceptance», GOST 51164-98 «Steel trunk pipelines», «General Requirements for protection against corrosion» and others, was always a leader in provision of scientific and normative documentation for the industry.
In compliance with the Russian Federationn Ministry’s of Construction Decision №3 from the 12th of February 1993 as well as the decision from the Russian Federationn Board of Construction from the 10th of November 1993, OJSC VNIIST was made a head organization responsible for the construction of trunk pipelines.
In compliance with the Russian Federationn Ministry’s of Energy Decision №85 from the 27th of April 1994, OJSC VNIIST was named a lead institution responsible for the provision of solutions to the scientific and technological problems arising in the process of pipeline construction.
OJSC VNIIST was accredited as a scientific organization (Document №3657 from 29.01.2002).
In over 60 years of its existence VNIIST participated in over 450 projects in 40 countries around the world, starting with construction of trunk pipelines of the former Soviet Union. OJSC works in partnership with the largest Russian Federationn and foreign companies such as OJSC «Gazprom», TNK-BP, OJSC «Rosneft», OJSC «Transneft», OJSC «LUnited Kingdomoil», OJSC «Surgutneftegas» etc.
VNIIST’s achievements of the latest years include development of the large-scale projects, such as: ESTO-1 pipeline, Baltic pipeline system, «Urubcheno-Tohomsk oilfield – Tayshet. Kuchetkan-Tayshet», Yamal pipeline system.
The basis of VNIIST’s successful work lies in the quality of service, responsibility and compliance with the requirements posed by the customer such as deadlines, budget, resources used, labor protection and protection of the environment. The company’s quality control management system is compliant with the international standard ISO 9001:2008, which is confirmed with the quality certificate TUV CERT.
OJSC VNIIST has a unique lab fund that allows the company to carry out scientific projects – construction work in diverse areas: protection against corrosion, technology and organization of pipeline construction, testing of pipelines, permafrost studies and others. Currently there are 6 PhDs and 18 candidates that work for the company; there is a scientific-technological council where all current scientific and technological problems and their solutions are examined.
Additionally as of 2005 VNIIST publishes a specialized scientific-technological journal for the industry called the «Pipeline transportation: theory and practice», which covers all scientific issues linked with the development of pipeline transportation in Russian Federation and abroad. This journal is included in the list of publications recommended for publication of dissertations

We also create and enhance new equipment, process plants, mechanical aids, building materials and structures, develop design and calculation methods, quality control of construction and various types of pipelines diagnostic inspection.
